At the end of June we will be fulfilling a goal and dream we have had since we started our club back in November of 2011. You see we are Hawaiian cultural immersion program.  The concept of this cultural immersion program started in the summer of 2006 on the Hawaiian island of Maui when I was gifted a set of six keiki paddles, one for each seat in the canoe, and asked to perpetuate the Hawaiian culture through the keiki’s on the Mainland.  Well it took a few years but with the help of our clubs cofounder and many dedicated parents, we have built a sustainable youth only Hawaiian cultural immersion program.  We have built Nā Koa Kai Canoe Club.  Nā Koa Kai Canoe Club is a unique youth only Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Club on the U.S. Mainland and the only cultural immersion program for youths only centered around the Hawaiian canoe.

This summer, our keiki’s get to practice and experience the Hawaiian culture they have learned on the Mainland on the Hawaiian Island of Maui.  This is in fact a pilgrimage – a return to the origin or roots, if you will, of our club.  We very excited about the opportunity to work with many cultural practitioners while on Maui.  This will be immensely memorable experience for our club.

Mahalo ke Akua for the opportunity you have presented us…
